Sokoto Governor tells N313.36m Gada hospital contractor to ‘speed up’

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has expressed satisfaction with the quality of work at the Gada General Hospital, which was awarded at the cost of N313.36 million, but told the contractor to hurry up and complete the project.
The project, which has reached 94 per cent completion stage, covers the total renovation of all structures, installation of solar power system, construction of a solar-powered borehole, remodelling of the labour ward, renovation of 14 staff quarters, construction of access roads, and installation of solar-powered streetlights within the hospital premises.
The governor, who inspected the ongoing renovation of the hospital, said “we need this project urgently; therefore, the contractor must speed up the work.”
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Wurno, informed the governor that Gada General Hospital, established in 1992, was last renovated during the administration of former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Dr. Wurno said that the hospital has a staff strength of 110, comprising doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, and other healthcare professionals and administrators.
He said that the intervention would translate to increased patronage and better patients outcomes, particularly in antenatal care, immunisation, and safe deliveries.
Our Correspondent reports that the governor was accompanied by the State APC Leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo, Speaker of the state Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga and the Emir of Kiyawa, Sanusi Muhammad Asha.
 Others were the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko, the Head of Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed, members of the National and State Assemblies, among others.
