Sokoto Gov’t approves purchase of N1.7bn fertilizer, seeds, agrochemicals

The Sokoto State Government has approved the purchase of assorted fertilisers, improved seeds, and agrochemicals worth N1.65 billion to complement similar agricultural inputs earlier procured by local government councils in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Sokoto by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa.
The statement said that the decision was taken during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday.
It explained that the procurement of the inputs was aimed at ensuring that it gets to farmers as the rainy season begins, to enable them derive maximum benefit it.
It further said that the Council has  approved the purchase of 1,200 motorcycles at the cost of N1.6 billion to be given to civil servants on loan.
The statement said this was in fulfilment of the pledge made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during this year’s May Day celebration in Sokoto.
Similarly, the Council approved the upgrading of Gagi Primary Health Centre to a General Hospital at the cost of N592,116,627.38, and the construction of a Primary Health Care Centre in Majemar Korino, Tudun Wada area of Sokoto South Local Government Area, at the cost of N143,457,763.27.
Approval was also given for the construction of an administrative block at the Primary Health Care Centre on Kontagora Road at the cost of N192,909,072.50.
Also approved was the construction of emergency concrete works and the reinstatement of collapsed culverts and drainage canals behind the Rima Radio/Tudun Wada road network at the cost of N246,981,250.00.
In addition, the Council approved the installation and maintenance of the Airfield Ground Lighting system at Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at the cost of N113,438,353.76.
