The Sokoto State Government says it has provided more than 200 operational vehicles to security agencies in the last three years as part of efforts to strengthen the protection of lives and property across the state.
The Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Sokoto on Friday during activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
According to the commissioner, the intervention was part of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to tackling insecurity and supporting security agencies in combating banditry and other criminal activities across the 23 local government areas of the state.
He stated that beyond the provision of vehicles, the state government had also supplied security agencies with logistics support needed to enhance their operations.
Adare further revealed that the administration successfully established the Community Guards Corps to complement conventional security efforts in the state.
He explained that the government provided office accommodation, motorcycles, operational vehicles, working tools and other operational support for the corps to ensure effective service delivery.
“The aim is to ensure that all that is needed to provide security across the state is routinely and adequately provided,” he said.
Reviewing the achievements of the administration over the past three years, the commissioner said Governor Ahmed Aliyu had remained committed to implementing his nine-point development agenda.
He noted that the government had recorded significant achievements in education through the rehabilitation and reconstruction of schools, construction of new schools and the provision of cash allocations to school principals for minor repairs and maintenance.
According to him, the administration had also invested in religious infrastructure through the renovation and remodeling of mosques and Islamiyyah schools, while providing support to Imams and Muazzins.
Adare added that the government had continued to support vulnerable groups, including orphans and the less privileged, through various welfare interventions.
He also highlighted youth and women empowerment programmes in areas such as tailoring, knitting, welding, vulcanising, soap making and other vocational skills aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic development.
The commissioner further listed the establishment of new water projects to address water scarcity, rehabilitation and construction of roads, installation of solar-powered streetlights and beautification of Sokoto metropolis among the achievements of the administration.
In the agricultural sector, he said the government had distributed fertilisers, agrochemicals and improved seeds free of charge to farmers to boost food production across the state.
He also said the administration had continued to support students through scholarship programmes within and outside Nigeria.
Adare appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting and cooperating with the government, assuring them that the administration remained committed to improving the welfare and living conditions of the people.
