The Sokoto state government has been called upon to use the street lights and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras within the state to check security challenges in the state and environs.

The call was made by a Civil Society group known as the Urbanization of Nigeria Association, in a statement by the group’s coordinator, Mr. Karim Abdullahi.

The group commended the state government for upgrading the Sokoto metropolis with solar-powered traffic lights, street names and CCTV surveillance, adding that the state now wears a beautiful look.

‘We received the news of the project when it started; today we are here and have seen that it is efficiently operational; we are indeed satisfied that Sokoto state government has taken constructive steps to modernize the metropolis. In addition, tax payers can see the good things their money has brought for them. We, therefore, commend the Sokoto state Governor, Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Wamakko for this giant success; by this, he has written his name in gold and even after leaving office the quality of job we see here will last a long time.

“We have noted that these CCTV cameras will go a long way to bring about the reduction in the rate of criminal activities, if properly used”, it further said.

The coordinator of the group further called on the state government to extend the installation of the traffic lights to other areas of Sokoto metropolis because, according to him, as the population is increasing there will be more pressure on the traffic of the metropolis and environs.

Mr Abdullahi called on other state governments to emulate Sokoto state government and take Nigeria to its desired heights in environmental aesthetics.
