Sokoto Lawmaker Mourns 9 Constituents Killed in Road Accident En Route Lagos

The member representing Yabo State Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Shehu Shamaki Yabo, has expressed deep grief over the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of nine young men from Yabo.
The victims were reportedly travelling to Lagos State in search of lawful means of livelihood when the accident occurred.
In a condolence statement issued to newsmen in Sokoto on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Hon. Shamaki described the incident as a devastating blow to Yabo and the entire Shagari/Yabo Federal Constituency.
“It is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of nine young men from Yabo.
“This painful incident is a great loss not only to their families but also to our entire constituency,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that the deceased were full of hope and aspirations, adding that their untimely death has thrown the community into deep mourning.
“These young men left home with dreams of a better life. Their passing at a time they were seeking to better their livelihood is heartbreaking and a huge loss to us all,” he added.
Hon. Shamaki, on behalf of himself and the good people of Yabo State Constituency, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Yabo, and all those affected by the tragedy.
He prayed: “I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives their shortcomings, and grants them the highest place in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”
The lawmaker also called on relevant authorities to intensify efforts on road safety and support for youths seeking legitimate opportunities within the state to reduce dangerous migration in search of jobs.
