The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an interim injunction restraining the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and its Registrar-General, Magaji Ishaq from withdrawing the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) or de-recognizing its existing leadership and management structure. The order also restrains the Minister, Ayodele Olawande and Ministry of Youth Development from acting on or enforcing the alleged deregistration.
The court’s decision came after a suit filed by the NYCN and its President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, challenging the CAC’s deregistration of the organization. The court adjourned the matter to October 28, 2025, for hearing of the Motion on Notice.
Justice B.F.M. Nyako ordered all parties to maintain peace and preserve the status quo until the next hearing date. The court’s order is aimed at preventing any further actions that could disrupt the functioning of the NYCN while the case is pending.
The development has brought a temporary reprieve to the NYCN, allowing it to continue its operations without interruption.
The court ruling renders inactive the newly inaugurated members of the Interim Management Committee (IMC). Any actions taken by the IMC would be considered prejudice, as the court has ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.
This development underscores the importance of the judiciary in resolving disputes and ensuring that due process is followed. As the case unfolds, all parties are expected to adhere to the court’s directives and maintain peace.
