Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has hinted that Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen may have faked injury during Nigeria Vs Rwanda World Cup Qualifier in Uyo on Saturday just so that he can return to his Club Galatasaray in Turkey to be ready for hectic weeks ahead

Osimhen was subbed off early in the first half of the match following a tackle by Rwanda defender.

Super Eagles medics though said the injury was minor, however the former Africa Footballer of the Year didn’t travel with the team in South Africa.

A situation Gyan said was an arranged situation so that Osimhen would be back in Turkey for his club hale and hearty as they prepare for Champions League next week.

“ I know these tricks. Someone told him [Osimhen], ‘look we just spent a lot on you. We have champions league coming up, we don’t like the idea that you are going to Africa for this international Break, but go there play a bit, sleep on the floor and fake it seriously, next day you will be in Turkey. Just to avoid noise from the media’. “

“Believe me you will see him fresh running hard in Turkish super league and in champions league no matter how many times they kick him there, he won’t sleep on the floor there. The doctors are in this too. Euro is  bigger than naira.” Gyan said.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray manager, Okan Buruk has admitted he develops high tension  whenever Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen leaves for international duty.

Osimhen, who plays a key role for club and country, was ruled out of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa after picking up an injury in the 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday.

Reacting to the situation, Buruk revealed that the Turkish champions are monitoring the striker’s condition closely.

“If there is a problem with Osimhen, we want to send a plane immediately and bring him back to Türkiye. We hope it’s nothing serious,” Buruk told Now Spor, as quoted by habersarikirmizi.

He further explained the tension he feels anytime the 25-year-old is on international duty.

“I always have fears about sending him to the national team, but tonight we experienced a bit of that. I was at dinner when the waiter came to me with a phone in his hand and showed me the news about Osimhen. We reached him, and the information we received is that he has pain in his foot.”

Osimhen’s absence is a huge blow for the Super Eagles, who face Bafana Bafana in Bloemfontein on Tuesday as they continue their push for a World Cup ticket.
