Sokoto State Government has donated over N100 million and 408 bags of assorted food items to families affected by bandit attacks in Dinawa and Birjingo villages in Wurno Local Government Area of the state.
The donation also include families of the recent boat mishap in Gorau, Goronyo Local Government Area.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto.
The donation was announced when a high-powered state government delegation, led by the State APC Leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, paid condolence visits to the affected communities.
Families of the seven deceased persons in Dinawa received N1 million each, two bags each of maize and millet, and one bag of rice, while the five injured received N250,000 each and one bag each of rice, millet and maize.
Similarly, in Birjingo village, families of the three deceased persons received N1 million each, alongside two bags each of maize, millet, and a bag of rice each,while the six injured received N250,000 each and one bag each of rice, millet and maize.
At Gorau, families of the 65 people who lost their lives in the boat mishap received N1 million each, as well as two bags each of maize,millet and a bag of rice.
Condoling the three communities on behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Senator Wamakko expressed deep shock over the incidents, which claimed the lives of residents in Dinawa and Birjingo, as well as 65 people in the boat mishap at Gorau.
He described the incidents as unfortunate and prayed to Almighty Allah to prevent a recurrence.
Senator Wamakko said the state government had been supporting security agencies in their efforts to secure the state.
“I am sure you must have seen the recent intervention by the state government, which included the provision of 62 armoured vehicles to security agencies to support their operations,” he said.
“The state government will continue to support our security agencies in their quest to curb the menace of insecurity in the state,” he added.
Senator Wamakko also expressed optimism that banditry would soon become a thing of the past and called on rural communities to continue supporting security agencies in achieving their objectives.
“We also need to pray fervently for Allah’s intervention on insecurity and other challenges confronting our nation,” he said.
He further appealed to the bereaved families to accept the deaths of their loved ones as ordained by Almighty Allah and prayed to Him to forgive the deceased and grant their families the strength to bear the loss.
At Gorau village, the Governor directed that the overloading of boats, which has been identified as a major cause of boat mishaps in the area, be stopped.
He directed the local government authorities and the district head to take stringent measures to prevent the overloading of boats in the area.
The delegates also visited Tsamaye village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, where they condoled with the people over the recent death of the Sabon Birni Local Government APC Chairman, Alhaji Amadu Malale.
The delegation prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
In their separate remarks, the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo, and the Chairman of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Hashimu Dantudu, thanked the state government for the care and concern it had shown to the affected communities.
Among those who accompanied the delegation during the condolence visits were the State Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir; Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi; Speaker, Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga; State APC Chairman, Haruna Adiya; members representing Kware/Wamakko and Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituencies, Ahmed Abdullahi Kalambaina and Ibrahim Almustapha Rabah; Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa; Chief of Staff, Government House, Sokoto, Aminu Haliru Dikko; and members of the State House of Assembly, among others.
