The Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network (SKPYN) has expressed dismay over Senator Sunday Marshall Katung’s absence during the Senate’s screening of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Minister of Defence. The youth group,

In a statement filled with disappointment, Katung asserts that his absence at such a crucial national event is not simply an oversight but a severe failure of the trust placed in him by the people of Southern Kaduna.

The statement was signed by Comrade Baranzan Chenchuk (President) and Comrade Al’amin Aminu Gwantu (Secretary), whose names appear prominently in the second paragraph, underscoring the urgency and legitimacy of their demands.

SKPYN has outlined three specific demands: (1) they have lost confidence in Katung’s ability to represent Kaduna South; (2) they are giving him an ultimatum—to publicly explain his absence, commit to being present and vocal, or resign immediately, allowing the district to seek proper representation; and (3) they urge the electorate to remain vigilant and hold all representatives accountable, warning that the 2027 election cycle will be the opportunity to “weed out ineffective, absentee representatives.”

The youth group draws a historical comparison, noting that under former senators such as Isaiah Balat, Caleb Zagi, Nenadi Usman, and Danjuma La’ah, the Senate chamber was never empty during critical votes. They argue that Katung has “disgracefully failed to meet” this standard. His absence, they contend, denies Southern Kaduna the influence it deserves on national security matters and constitutes “the height of insensitivity and professional misconduct.”

In conclusion, SKPYN emphasizes that “Southern Kaduna deserves better” and insists that the time for accountability is now, urging citizens to demand representation that is “present, proactive, and powerful.” The group’s passionate appeal signals that the youth of the region will no longer tolerate what they perceive as a dereliction of duty.
