A coalition under the auspices of the Concerned Civil Society Organisation of Nigeria has called for the re-election of the incumbent National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, in the upcoming election of the association.
The National Coordinator of the coalition, Comrade Aminu Arabi, made the call on Saturday at a press briefing in Kaduna yesterday.
Arabi emphasized that the SSANU’s National President is enthusiastic and has a passion for doing more, coupled with his motivation to contribute to the association and Nigerian universities.
He said that the incumbent SSANU president needed to consolidate the initiatives and development he started, which formed the backbone of the coalition’s interest in him.
According to him, the successes recorded in his first tenure were numerous and gigantic.
Arabi mentioned some of the successes, including the building of the modern SSANU national secretariat.
The book is entitled “Celebrating African Creativity: The AMAA Journey”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first AMAA coffee book was launched in 2014, entitled “From Dream to Reality: The AMAA Legacy”.
Dr Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, Chief Executive Officer of AMAA, during the book launch in Lagos, said the book captured documentaries of previous editions of AMAA.
Anyiam-Osigwe said this was in commemoration of the 20th edition of AMAA and to celebrate the life and times of AMAA’s founder, late Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, as well as other individuals, who have contributed to the awards in no small measure.
“We are not just launching a book but we are celebrating my late sister and founder of AMAA, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, who is no more with us here.
“The coffee table book has captured all the moments of AMAA in the last 20 years for posterity. It is our treasure trove of creative history.
“The coffee table book showcases Africans’ brilliance in film. It showcases the glimpses of Africa’s creative brilliance in films and photography,” he said.(NAN)
The group, which is a coalition of 594 associations from across the Northern states and those of Northerners in the South, expressed concern over the spate of violent attacks targeting Northerners.
Addressing the press in a conference, the National President of NSNCM, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, said the situation has become intolerable, citing a series of violent incidents against Northerners, including the killings in Abia and Imo states.
Aliyu highlighted an incident in June 2024, where unknown gunmen attacked the Okigwe community in Imo State, resulting in the deaths of seven Northerners and the destruction of their properties.
He noted that “despite numerous complaints to relevant authorities, no decisive actions have been taken, raising fears that such attacks might become a recurring issue.”
A statement by the National Coordinator of the Group, Osabinu Olufemi urged electorates in Ondo State to disregard those criticisms and support the governor.
“As the Ondo State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16th, 2024 approaches, political discourse has reached a fever pitch.
“Central to this electoral contest is Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who ascended to the gubernatorial seat on December 27th, 2023, following the unfortunate demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
“In the face of mounting opposition, particularly from the People’s Demership has come under intense scrutiny.
