The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has congratulated Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar on his conferment of the prestigious traditional title of Marafan Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.

In a statement issued Sunday, Matawalle praised Yari, a former governor of Zamfara and current senator representing Zamfara West, for earning one of the highest traditional honors in the Sokoto Caliphate, describing it as a recognition not only for the senator but also for the people of Zamfara.

“This honor reflects the collective pride of Zamfara’s citizens and the governing party. Senator Yari embodies the qualities befitting the Marafan Sokoto title, as valued by the Sokoto Caliphate,” Matawalle said.

Yari, who is the son-in-law of the late Marafan Sokoto, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi, is expected to uphold the legacy of his father-in-law, admired for his dedication, patience, and service to the community.

Matawalle commended the Sultanate Council for recognizing Yari’s “simplicity, devotion, and philanthropic spirit,” which align with the values of the revered traditional title.

He further prayed for Yari’s continued guidance and protection as he serves the state and its people.
