Steve Babaeko remains president as AAAN re-elects executive board members

The Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) has renewed the tenure of members of its executive board.

The members were returned for a fresh two-year term following an election on Saturday at the 49th annual general congress of the association, held in Lagos.

According to a statement from the association, Steve Babaeko, founder of X3M Ideas, a Lagos-based digital advertising agency, remains the AAAN president.

Also returning as executives are; Jenkins Alumona, vice president; Tope Jemerigbe, publicity secretary, Tola Obi, assistant publicity secretary; and Kayode Ebatamehi, treasurer, who will remain in office for two additional years.

Others who received similar gestures are; Tunji Olugbodi, Onuora Molokwu, Lanre Adisa and Biodun Adefila, who returned as ex-officio members.

Meanwhile, at the congress, Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, delivered a keynote address, themed, ‘The new world order: Technology as a game changer’.

Mohammed, in his address, said the success in advertising will be based on technology, adding that the opportunities technology provides for the enhancement of advertising are vast.

The minister called on agencies to harness talents and competencies in digital technology and also urged them to pay attention to the menace of fake news, as it negatively affects brand promise.

He added that the federal government was committed to strengthening the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) through the implementation of reform initiatives.
