The National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons, and Pipeline Vandalism in Nigeria has warned Agaba Iduh Fidel, the acting director-general of the agency.
Silas Uchendu Ihemeremadu, the provost of NATCOM, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, described the news as nothing but fake.
According to the statement, it may be recalled that Agaba is one of those who were suspended from NATCOM’s office in 2023 by the disciplinary committee instituted by the management of the organization for the abuse of office.
He was suspended for extorting money from some gullible members of the public and remains suspended to date.
The statement reads: “Some weeks ago, one Otumba Adejare Adegbenro Nurudeen was caught organizing a fake three-day sensitization, orientation, and awareness training for some officers and men in Abuja, FCT.
“During the program, he allegedly extorted N5,500:00 for documentation from each of them.
Agaba was arrested by the Small Arms, Ammunition, and Light Weapons Team of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, FCT, for his illegal activities, and he is still being investigated at the headquarters of the police force in Abuja.
“The proponent of the NATCOM BILL that was passed into law by the 9th and 10th National Assembly, respectfully Dr. Baba Mohammed, advised members of the public not to engage in any illegal activities tantamount to threatening the peace of Nigeria.
“Baba encouraged those who have genuine letters of appointment signed by Dr. Baba Mohammed (FCNA) to be patient for their orientation and training when His Excellency, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, magnanimously signs the NATCOM BILL into law.
“Also, he graciously announces Dr. Baba Mohammed as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NATCOM or the Executive Chairman of NATCOM.”
