‘Strategic plan for development of Nigeria’s steel industry being implemented’

Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Musa Mohammed Sada has revealed Federal Government’s will at enforcing the strategic plan for development of the nation’s steel Industry.

The Minister said this during a working visit to the various steel companies at Kogi state, yesterday; among the companies visited were the Ajaokuta Steel Development Company, the National Iron-Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, the West African Ceramics Company site, KCM Company exploration site and African Resources Company exploration site.

He further explained that the Federal Government has taken a step by inviting Private Investors, who had indicated their interest by signing the memorandum of understandings with the Management of the company in order to reactivate and operate the already completed plants.

Sada also said that part of the strategic plans was to avoid making same past mistakes, which has left the sector underdeveloped, thus making it difficult for operators to add value to it.

The Minister outlined the strategic development plans as; “the production of spare parts for the needs of the automobile industry in the country at Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited…,”

“To attain self-sufficiency in the production of ceramic tiles and availability of Iron-Ore and other solid mineral resources for the production of steel and other allied products in the Country.”

“To dovetail the operations at the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited to the actualization of the Industrial Revolution Plan of the Federal Government.”

According to Sada, Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Olusegun Aganga and the Director- General of the bureau for Public Enterprises, Mr Benjamin Diki had joined him on the visit to the

various sites to come up with implementation strategies to attaining the Federal Government’s Industrial Revolution Plan.
