The leadership of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Kebbi State Chapter has called on the state Solicitor General and the permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice Barr. Aminu Usman Tunga to urgently tender unreserved apology to his Lordship, the chief Justice of Nigeria over his comment on the ongoing strike.
This was disclosed by the National Vice President JUSUN North-West, Comerade Saidu Maguji Karkarku while addressing newsmen yesterday at the Union office Brinin Kebbi. Adding that Aminu has no power to challenge the Nigeria Judiciary, urged him to apology unless the union will have no other option than to report him to appropriate quarters for disciplinary action.
“This is highly condemnable for a lawyer and solicitor general of a state to abuse the Chief Justice of his country. His lordship simply urged the state Governors to obey the constitution by complying with the Judgment/orders of a competent court” he said.
He further pointed out that the solicitor general also raised the issue of figures. JUSUN demands are not without figures “you see in Nov. 2014, the executive and the state judiciary sat and worked out the financial needs of the judicial, but funds were never released. Aminu is clearly aware of these, if he has issues with the working of National Judicial Council, he is free to challenge them” he explained.
Karkarku, said that Aminu has no power constitutional or administrative to call on JUSUN to suspend the strike, adding that this is the position of section 318 (b) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while the judiciary workers are not civil servants talk less of being referred to as supporting staff.
” We are on strike because of the failure of state executive governor to comply with the judgment/orders of the federal high court delivered on 13/01/2014. So for that there is a limit to arrogance/power intoxication” he lamented.
Recall l that on Tuesday 13 January 2015, Aminu held a press briefing in Government House, Brinin kebbi condemning the illegality of the strike, saying that is unconstitutional for state to join the strike. However the union simply called on the state government to implement the court judgment/orders of the federal high court of 13/1/2014 and M.O V of 27/11/2014.
