Students trained on use of technology to combat hate speech

The Center for Information and Technology Development ( CITAD) has embarked on a three -day workshop to enlighten students of tertiary institutions in North East zone on how to use technology to combat hate speech.
Speaking to journalists in Gombe, yesterday the Executive Director of the organization, Yunusa Zakari disclosed that programme held at flourish Hotel Gombe, was aimed at sensitizing the students on how to combat hate speech He said the workshop has become necessary to train the students of high institution as they have 80 percent of population of online users to know how to combat hate speech to the peace speech so that the country can be free of online hate speech.
The participants who were drawn from tertiary institution across the north east states were taught how to use modern technology in combating hate speech online so as to have a free online hate speech society that will improve the peaceful coexistence among various segments of people of the country.
He said participants have been trained on tracking, monitoring and combating hate speech online, maintained that CITAD has been working with other partners to combat hate speech among young ones who uses social media frequently so as to disabuse their minds from using hate speech on anything capable of causing violence in Nigeria.
Ya’u said that the use of technology tools in combating hate become necessary following the damage hate speech has done to the country especially during previous elections, maintained that peace can only prevail in a hate speech free country .
