From Godwin Agia, Jalingo
In order to cushion the hardship occasion by the subsidy removal, the Senator representing Taraba North Shuaibu Lau on Tuesday presented scholarship to 360 students drawn from public tertiary institutions across the senatorial district.
Speaking during the presentation in Jalingo the State capital, Lau called on the government at all levels to invest in the education of its citizens for rapid development of the nation.
Represented by Oliver Suleiman, Lau noted that the presentation was in fulfillment of his campaign promises and his passion for education.
He said the bedrock of any developed country is anchored on its levels of educational development and how much they have committed to it.
Mr Lau said his passion to help the students in the society was based on the passion he has placed on education.
“Because of the premium I place on education, I said I will make sure I cater for the indigent students. It became a vow to me.
“It is not a winner takes it all. That is why you see people across religious and political divides benefiting from the scholarship.”
