Founder, Nisa Fertility Center Kaduna , Dr Ibrahim Wada has said the hospital has completed arrangement to provide free In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment for 10 couples annually in Kaduna state.
According to him, the gesture would add value to life.
The Founder was speaking at the opening of the Nisa Fertility Center in Kaduna at the weekend.
Dr Wada said the hospital carried out the first In Vitro delivery in Gwagwalada, Abuja 20 years ago.
“We are here because there is too much barrenness in our land. Several women, several couples are crying because of barrenness. This is our effort to help wipe away the tears from many faces.
“ There are many children suffering from sickle cell but today’s technology can prevent that scourge. With the handy technology, AS and AS can marry each other and have babies that won’t be SS.
“We have soft heart for the poor, so 10 infertile couples would be treated technologically free of charge every year. We are here to add value to life,” he said.
Commissioner for Health Kaduna state, Dr Paul Manya commended Nisa team for opening the hospital in Kaduna.
Dr Manya explained that many causes of infertility are avoidable and self-inflicted.
He was represented by the Deputy Dean College of Medicine, Kaduna State University, Dr Joel Adze,
“Infertility is when a couple mated for one year without pregnancy.
According to WHO, infertility is the fifth highest global disability in the world.
“Infertility is a well-known clinical and public problem in Nigeria with between 20% and 35% prevalent rate. We have 5.5% per women rate of infertility in Nigeria.
“Causes of infertility include genital infections following childbirth, sexually transmitted infections and complications following abortion.
“ National Demographic Survey 2013 says only 36% of women deliver their babies in health facility, the 64% who deliver at home are prone to genital infection infertility. Nigerian law restricts abortion to clandestine activity,” he said.
