Scores of people were suspected killed in a bomb blast at about 10am yesterday in Potiskum town, in Yobe state.

An eyewitness, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, said the explosion occurred when an Islamic sect, known as the Shi’ite, was returning in a procession from a yearly religious celebration.

The celebration is a commemoration of the killing grandson of the prophet and founder of the Islamic religion.

He said the explosion occurred at an area known as SohuarKasua, along Kano road in Potiskum town, in Potiskum local government area of the state, adding that the bomb may have been planted earlier, as nobody was caught, and that were gunshots were heard.

He said because there were a large crowd and everybody was running for his life, the figure of casualties or injured, who are especially women and children could not be immediately confirmed.

Yobe state police Command spokesman, Mr. Markus Koleti Danladi, confirmed the incident but said investigation is going on and would give details later.
