…Endorses president Tinubu for second term

The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has appealed to South-West stakeholders for support in his bid for re-election.
Sukubo, who is seeking another four-year mandate, met youth leaders and delegates in Ibadan, Oyo State, ahead of the council’s elective congress scheduled for 19–21 September 2025.
At the gathering, he promised to harness digital innovations to advance youth leadership, empowerment, and national development if returned to office.
He thanked the South-West for its contributions to shaping the NYCN, stressing that his wide consultations in the region underscored its strategic importance to Nigeria’s youth constituency.
“My decision to consult widely with key stakeholders in the South-West zone was informed by the immense impact of the region in the future of Nigerian youth,” he said.
Sukubo noted that the zone enjoys the highest representation in the council’s executive committee, citing its long-standing support for his leadership.
He also announced his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, arguing that it would be fair for the South to complete two consecutive terms in the presidency, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari did from the North.
On criticism of Tinubu’s government, Sukubo said Nigerians often believe someone else could have done better than a sitting president, dismissing the attacks as premature.
Oyo NYCN chairman Comr. Abdulsalam Abdulquadri reaffirmed the South-West’s loyalty to Sukubo’s leadership, pledging full backing for his re-election.
Comr. Olalekan James, another youth leader, condemned alleged moves to unseat the NYCN leadership through unconstitutional means, warning that only the elective congress could change leadership.
Campaign Director General Comr. Temple Chinedu Chika described Sukubo as a “dogged youth leader” with an uncommon passion for youth development, insisting no NYCN president has been as selfless.
The South-West zone, long considered a pacesetter in NYCN politics, has now thrown its weight firmly behind Sukubo’s campaign—setting the stage for a decisive battle at the upcoming congress.
