The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111, has advised President Goodluck Jonathan and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to base their campaigns on issues.

Speaking yesterday in Sokoto, when he played host to President Goodluck Jonathan, who paid him homage in preparation to the February polls, the Sultan also advocated that the two leading Presidential candidates must conduct their campaigns devoid of religious sentiments.

He further enjoined the two leaders to eschew the use of abusive language and mudslinging as part of their campaign strategy.

While calling on President Jonathan to do everything possible to bring an end to the security challenges bedeviling the country, he described as disheartening the attitude of political leaders who take to abusing each other.

To this end, he charged them to rather conduct their campaigns based on issues, even as he expressed concern over the manner political campaigns have been turned to religious and ethnic battles in the country.

Recall that in recent times, the war songs being song by supporters of the two dominant Presidential candidates have created intense doubts among Nigerians on the possibility of the February polls being conducted without letting blood.
