The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has disowned reports claiming he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by his media team and signed by Bashir Adefaka, the revered traditional ruler said the report circulating on social media was a deliberate attempt to drag him into partisan politics.
The statement stressed that the Sultan, as a respected religious and traditional leader, could not publicly endorse any political candidate or party, noting that his position requires him to remain impartial and serve as a father figure to all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.
According to the media team, the Sultan’s palace remains open to everyone, irrespective of political persuasion, and his engagements with public office holders or political actors should not be interpreted as support for any individual or party.
The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour and avoid spreading false information capable of creating unnecessary political controversy.
It also reaffirmed the Sultan’s commitment to promoting national unity, peaceful coexistence and stability, while calling on media organizations and social media users to exercise caution by verifying information before publication.
