Enyimba FC Chief Coach, Friday Christopher said the club missed the services of their top striker, Mfon Udoh at the just ended Super 6 tournament in Abuja.
Mfon Udoh was the highest goal scorer of the 2013/14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with a total of 26.
The Enyimba of Aba forward embodies the tantalizing goodwill that engulfed the NPFL which experienced tremendous growth in terms of followership, level of football shrewdness and excitement in the year under review.
The 22-year-old bagged half a dozen braces throughout the campaign, including one in the last game of the season against Kano Pillars.
And though the Aba Millionaires were left to rue missed chances in the game against Dolphins, a game they had to win in order to keep the hope of a league title alive, which ended 1-1, Mfon Udoh ended the campaign on a personal high, shattering the previous record of 20 goals set in the2010/11 season by former-Kaduna United forward Jde Aneke.
The former Akwa United, who scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Akwa Ibom-based club before joining the two-time African Champions League winners, set a new record of 23 league goals and added a further three goals in the Federations Cup to take his tally up to 26 in all competitions, confirming his status as the new ‘goal king’ in the league.
Enyimba picked 14 points away from home, the most by any club in the league and it was largely Mfon Udoh’s goals that ensured their dominant displays away from home.
Christopher added that since Udoh left for trials abroad the Aba Millionaires have lost its killer instinct in front of goal, adding that he was however still a part of the club.
“Naturally, Mfon (Udoh) is still with his us because he is registered for the CAF Champions League.
“He has just gone or trials, so we can say for now if he will come or not, depending on the agreement between the management of both clubs.
“However, if he chooses to come back, then, he will automatically pick his shirt because we know that anybody who has gone for trials will even work harder than here.
