Eagles push for equaliser was made worse after Alex Iwobi who came in for Kelechi Iheanacho was shown a straight red card in 65th minute.
The centre referee first issued the Everton star a yellow card but after VAR review, he changed his mind and went for a straight red.
Down to 10 men and a goal deficiency, the Eagles made concerted efforts to equaliser but it ended unsuccessful.
