Super Eagles Gear up for CHAN Tournament

As the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 looms, Nigeria will look to make a significant impact on their return to the tournament after their last appearance in 2018.

Known for their rich footballing heritage, the Super Eagles are eager to claim their first CHAN title and further solidify their place among Africa’s elite football nations.

Nigeria qualified impressively, defeating their long-time rivals Ghana in a thrilling two-legged play-off. Their fans will hope that the current squad, led by coach Daniel Ogunmodede, can emulate their best CHAN performance to date when they finished as runners-up in 2018.

Nigeria secured their place in the CHAN 2024 finals by overcoming Ghana in the qualifiers. The Super Eagles recorded a 3-1 aggregate victory, with captain Junior Nduka playing a pivotal role by scoring a crucial goal.

Captain Junior Nduka will be central to Nigeria’s CHAN campaign, bringing both leadership and goalscoring ability. Another player to watch is Anas Yusuf, the top scorer in the Nigerian Premier League, whose sharp instincts and clinical finishing make him a constant threat.

Eric Chelle, the coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, has been brought in to lead home-based Super Eagles at the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). The Franco-Malian made his mark in Mali by guiding the senior national team to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. Known for his tactical discipline and emphasis on high-intensity pressing, Chelle has earned a reputation as one of Africa’s emerging coaching minds. Although Daniel Ogunmodede led Nigeria through the qualifiers, Chelle’s appointment brings experience at the highest level of international competition.

Nigeria’s best CHAN outing came in 2018 when they reached the final but were narrowly defeated. They have reached the semifinals twice in their previous three appearances, underlining their pedigree in the competition.
