It was a night of joy, pride and celebration as Nigeria’s Super Eagles put on a masterclass to sweep aside Algeria 2–0 in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash, sealing a famous victory and booking a well-deserved place in the semi-finals.
From the first whistle, the Super Eagles set the tone, dictating play with confidence, intensity and flair. The Algerians were pinned back for long spells, struggling to cope with Nigeria’s pace, pressing and fluid movement, as the green-white-green faithful watched in delight.
The breakthrough came almost immediately after the restart, igniting wild
celebrations among Nigerian fans. Just one minute into the second half, Victor Osimhen rose majestically to power home a superb header in the 46th minute from a pinpoint cross by Bruno Onyemaechi, a goal that crowned Nigeria’s total dominance.
The celebrations continued ten minutes later when the Super Eagles struck again. In the 56th minute, Osimhen showed great selflessness, squaring the ball to Akor Adams, who calmly finished to double Nigeria’s lead. It was a moment that highlighted the unity and team spirit driving the Nigerian side on their march to glory.
Akor Adams, who had earlier missed a clear opportunity, made amends in style with his goal, adding another memorable chapter to his AFCON journey after also scoring in the round of 16 — a strike he had emotionally dedicated to his mother.
Nigeria’s dominance was overwhelming. By the 62nd minute, the Super Eagles had unleashed an astonishing 62 shots, while Algeria failed to register a single attempt on target throughout the contest. Solid at the back, commanding in midfield and ruthless in attack, Nigeria never looked in danger as they confidently saw out the match.
At the final whistle, it was pure jubilation as the Super Eagles celebrated a resounding victory that sends them into the AFCON semi-finals in style. The emphatic win not only ends Algeria’s campaign but also reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation as genuine contenders for the coveted African crown.
