An elder statesman Alhaji Mohammed Bello Kirfi has urged youths to support credible candidates not political parties in the forthcoming 2019 general election.
Bello Kirfi made the call at the weekend when youths’ organization under the auspices of North East Youth Enlightenment of People on Good Governance (NEYEPGG) paid him a courtesy visit at his Bauchi residence.
“I want to charge you, the youths, to go for credible candidates who you think will serve you better, who have the good record to deliver and have the track record of honesty and good governance, not party.”
He added that you should also make consultations across and sought for advice from elders, parents and politicians before supporting any candidate.
Bello Kirfi, a former minister during Olusegun Obasanjo administration, has also advised the youth to be sincere in their activities and the choice of a candidate.
Kirfi also said the youths have the tasked to bring an honest and hard working leader for the country, that would bring progress and development.
Speaking, earlier, the Secretary of the group (NEYEPGG), Engineer Ayuba Karofi, said the visit was to seek for the elder statesman’s blessings and advice on the way forward on development of the North-East region.
He said: “North East is backward; is ravaged with poverty and lack of good representatives at the center. That’s is why we are far behind in the country in terms of development. Activities of insecurity have devastated the six states of the region.
“As elder statesman, we also want to informed you that we have gone through many records of personalities and leaders who are capable of ruling the country from the North East.
“After due consultation, we came out with the name of Gombe State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, whose track of service and credibility convinced us. So we want to support him for the presidential ticket in 2019 general election”.
They pledged to also sensitize electorates on the importance and the need to acquire voters’ cards, adding voters’ cards is the only weapon to use in bringing credible candidate.
