The All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Benue state has lauded the Thursday’ Supreme Court Judgement on Local government financial autonomy as ‘final triumph of the Local Government Areas system over what it described as satanic and anti-democratic forces.
The party, in a press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, in Makurdi, also congratulated the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the court verdict that unshackled all 774 local governments areas from the chains of state governors in Nigeria.
It added that the judgement has strengthened the confidence of the people on the integrity of the Supreme Court.
Also, the party says it believes the verdict was needed to achieve stability in and around the local government administration and enhance greater productivity without negative interference and distractions from State Governors.
It therefore promised to ensure the Supreme Court judgment is enforced in Benue State with immediate effect, and also to drum support for early local government elections that will usher in democratically elected council leaders to run the business of the local governments.
“This victory is of the people and our Party, the APC, is very excited that from this day, council chairmen can now offer purposeful and quality leadership devoid of undue pressure and threats from those the court referred to as “dangerous species”, Ihomun said.
