Kaduna state Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero yesterday, distributed assorted grains worth four hundred and six million naira (N406, 000,000) to one hundred and fifty thousand people of the state as palliatives from the 2013 Subsidy Reinvestment Program (SURE-P) funds.
Governor Yero, at the flag-off ceremony in Dankende, Igabi local government areas of the state, said the assorted grains, numbering 150,000 bags include rice, maize and spaghetti to be distributed to the 255 wards of the 23 local government areas of the state.
Other beneficiaries of the grains according to Yero are orphanage homes, charity organizations, widows, persons with disability, destitute, old citizens, HIV/AIDS victims, Kaduna state special schools, Nigeria Council of Women Society (NCWS), religious bodies and youth organizations.
While urging the beneficiaries not to sell the items, Yero stressed that the gesture is to alleviate poverty and create wealth among its citizens, while assuring that his administration is committed to the welfare of its citizens.
Earlier in his address, the Chief of Staff who is the Chairman, Distribution committee Alhaji Yahaya Aminu while giving a breakdown of the sources of income used in the purchase of the grains said, 241 million naira was gotten from the 2013 SURE-P, 50 million naira from the Ministry of Agriculture while 115 million naira was contribution from the 23 local government areas of the state.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent at the venue of the flag-off commended the governor for the gesture and promised to utilize the grains accordingly.
