Sen. Daisy Ehanire-Danjuma, wife of General Theophilus Danjuma has called for a peaceful election in Edo State scheduled for this Saturday
She however cautioned that people with dubious character should not be allowed to govern the State.
She made the call at a reception in her honour by Edo women for Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Hon. Philip Shaibu on Monday in Benin City where a Shelter for deported Migrants was named after her.
Ehanire-Danjuma, commended the former national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for identifying Governor Godwin Obaseki, Candidate of the PDP in the election as his successor barely four years ago.
“I thank Oshiomhole for identifying the right person to be his successor. He fought godfatherism and now we are now independent. No man is God.
“God chooses leader. Government is not a one man affair. We want a very peaceful election. We do not want to buy guns. We want a peaceful election in Edo.
“I am mother. My Children are not here. So, why should I send another person’s Children to fight. Election is not war.
“We want people without stains in office. We do not want people with bad record to govern Edo State”, she said.
She revealed that Governor has performed well during his first tenure deserve to be re-elected for a second term in office and wondered why the godfatherism in which Oshiomhole stood against in the past has suddenly become his Achilles heel.
The Senator who represented Edo South Senatorial district between 2003 and 2017, appealed to desperate politicians to discourage violence in the election and assist vulnerable Nigerians.
Ehanire-Danjuma, “other Governors that we have had did first and second tenure. So, why can’t Obaseki be allowed to do second tenure?”, he queried.
On their part, the First Lady of Edo, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki and State PDP Women Leader, Mrs. Esohe Sorae recalled the sterling qualities of Sen. Daisy Ehanire-Danjuma.
They described Ehanire-Danjuma as a hardliner who damming the consequences of expulsion threats by PDP for endorsing Governor Obaseki before his defection from APC to PDP few months ago.
According to the First Lady, “ What is happening in Edo State is critical because it is the heartbeat of Nigeria.
“All eyes are on this election. The politics of Nigeria will be cleansed after this election.
