From Bashir Rabe Mani, Sokoto

The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Hon. Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, has officially resigned from both his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his elected position.
The developments were confirmed through two separate resignation letters made available to journalists in Sokoto.
In a letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward, Hon. Kalanjeni formally severed ties with the ruling party.
“I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.
“This decision is borne out of purely personal reasons. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to be part of the party,” the letter read.
Following his party resignation, Hon. Kalanjeni issued a second letter on July 7, 2026, addressed to the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, announcing his exit from office.
In the document, titled ‘Letter of Resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area,’ Kalanjeni cited administrative hurdles as the primary reason for stepping down.
He noted that the “difficult decision” was reached after extensive talks with his family, community stakeholders, and key political associates.
He admitted that due to recent “unavoidable administrative challenges,” he could no longer execute his duties to the high standards expected of his office.
He however, expressed deep appreciation to the electorate, the council’s legislative arm, and the local government staff for the privilege to serve, while wishing the incoming leadership success.
