The Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has promised to pay withheld salaries of persons not properly employed in the state.
Dr Agbu stated this at the TY Dajuma House in Jalingo while addressing the protesters on Thursday.
He assured them that those properly employed would begin to receive their payments from Monday.
“We will ensure that those who have been properly employed start receiving their salaries from Monday, and even those with irregular employment records will have their status reviewed and payments made accordingly,” he said.
Citizenship Daily reports that the governor’s assurance came as a group of civil servants in Taraba State, allegedly listed as ghost workers, staged a peaceful protest in Jalingo, the state capital, demanding unpaid salaries of four months.
The protesters marched to the TY Danjuma House, calling on Governor Agbu Kefas to intervene and ensure they are paid, they were carrying placards with different inscriptions such as, “Pay us our salaries”, “We are not ghosts”, “we are humans with families to feed”.
They insisted that they are genuine workers of the Taraba State Government, not ghost workers, and deserved their pay.
