Team Edo to battle team Lagos for Men’s, women’s football Gold

Host Team Edo will battle Team Lagos in the men’s and women’s final of the football event at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival In Benin City, Edo State Capital.
Team Lagos thrashed defending champions, Team FCT 3-0 in the first men’s semifinals of the tournaments decided at the football pitch of the University of Benin Stadium yesterday.
Despite Team FCT dominating the opening stages of the encounter, but they lacked the cutting edge at the Lagosians final third as the game ended 0-0 in halftime.
At the restart of the game Team Lagos were awarded a controversial penalty and was converted in the 59th minutes, they further consolidate on the performance to score two more that ended the dreams of FCT of retaining the title they won in 2018 on home soil.
In the second men’s semifinal, host Team Edo who were group B winners defeated Team Imo 3-1 to book a final heavyweight clash against Lagos.
In the women’s category, Team Edo narrowly edged their Team Delta counterparts 1-0 as Team Lagos were 4-0 better than Team Kaduna.
The finals of the men’s and women’s football event would take centre stage at the University of Benin Stadium today.
