…Yero assures Igbo community of security

There was tension in Kaduna metropolis yesterday following speculations that the speaker of the state House of assembly Right Hon. Umar Tahir was going to be impeached by lawmakers who are opposed to his leadership of the house.
The speculation gained momentum when residents woke up to a heavy presence of security operatives, comprising of the Police, the state security outfit, Operation Yaki, members of the civil defense corps among others.
A source in the Assembly also told our correspondent that the unusual and heavy presence of the operatives was to prevent a supposedly planned protest by a group from the southern part of the state, who were angry with the incessant and unabated killings of their kinsmen. However plenary session of the Assembly was held smoothly inside the chambers, while the stern looking operatives kept vigil at the entrance, to forestall any break down of law and order.
When contacted, the Kaduna state Police command spokesman SP Aminu Lawan said the security beef up was “a normal security routine and there was no cause for alarm” Meanwhile, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has assured the Igbo
community in the state of his administration commitment to the security of their members and property. Speaking when he received a delegation of the Igbo community, who paid a courtesy call to the Government House yesterday; Governor Yero said as law-abiding citizens, members of the Igbo Community in the state should feel at home and go about their businesses without fear of
intimidation.
In his speech earlier, the Eze Igbo of Kaduna State, Igwe Sir Engr Sylvanus Aneke thanked Governor Yero for appointing a member of the Igbo Community as a Special Assistant, Mr. Eugene Modebe, saying “by this appointment you have demonstrated that you are one of the few nationalistic Nigerian. You have shown that tribes and tongues may differ, but we remain one people with one destiny.”
