Arrangements are now in top gear for the first edition of the Testia Basketball Championship slated to take place in Abuja later in December.
In a recent interview, the Chief Executive officer of Testia Restaurants, the sponsors of the tournament, Chief Kester Agwu told Peoples Daily that all the basketball teams in Abuja are expected to participate in the week-long event.
To underscore the seriousness the organizers have attached to the championship, Tastia has already produced jerseys for the participating teams and also purchased balls that would be used for the tournament.
Agwu also revealed that apart from other incentives, the tournament will attract a prize money of N1 million naira for the winners, the runners-up will smile home with N500,000 while the third placed team goes home with N300,000.
The Testia boss also weighed in on the state of sports in Nigeria with a call on the federal government and indeed other well to do citizens to engage more in sports development.
According to him, if adequate attention is given to sports, that sector has the potential of helping in taking care of most of the young ones who indulge in different nefarious activities to have a meaningful means of livelihood, just like it is in most other countries of the world.
Agwu who also congratulated the newly appointed Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko also urged him to work diligently to reposition sports across board.
He further noted that Dikko being a known face in sports administration has all the potentials to rehabilitate and turn sports into a profitable venture in the country.
While wishing him all the best; he promised to within his available power and resources support the NSC Chairman to succeed in office.
