The National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has congratulated veteran labor leader Comrade Issa Aremu on his recent reappointment as the Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) in Ilorin, Kwara State.
This reappointment, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been described by the union as “a well-deserved recognition of visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to labor education and national development.”
At a press conference held on Monday in Kaduna, the General Secretary of the union, Comrade Ali Baba, expressed excitement and pride over the renewed term of their former General Secretary, Comrade Aremu.
“Comrade Issa Aremu’s reappointment is a remarkable testament to his commitment, visionary leadership, and outstanding contributions to labor education and policy development in Nigeria,” the union noted.
According to Baba, Aremu made history in May 2021 when he was first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the first trade unionist to lead the Institute. “Under Comrade Aremu’s stewardship, the Institute has undergone a significant transformation, gaining renewed relevance and increased engagement with both national and international stakeholders. This has solidified its role as a premier labor education and policy institute in the country,” he emphasized.
