Today, let’s draw our lessons from Suratul-Fajr (The dawn)
Every dawn in our lives is a divine reminder that darkness never wins. Allah swears by the breaking of a new day (Q.89:1) to teach us that no matter how long the night of trial or sorrow lasts, light will always emerge by His decree.
Surat Al-Fajr calls every soul to reflection on the transient nature of power and pride. It calls for patience and living with purpose. It reminds us of past nations who were mighty yet perished in arrogance, and it gently warns us against the illusion of arrogance and self-sufficiency. Allah (SWT) reminds us in verse 14 of the Surah thus: “Indeed, your Lord is ever watchful.”
But beyond warning, there is the promise of immense hope in the Surah. Toward its end, the Surah paints one of the most comforting pictures in the Qur’an which is a divine invitation to the righteous soul. Allah (SWT) says in verses 27 to 30 of the Surah thus: O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.
These verses are not only for the moment of death; it is also a message for life. It calls us to live purposefully in peace, trust Allah’s plan, and strive for the serenity of the “nafs al-mutma’innah” i.e the tranquil soul that finds contentment in every decree of its Lord.
So as you step into this blessed Jum’ah day, let the lessons from Surat Al-Fajr remind you that ;no storm lasts forever, every dawn is a new beginning, the challenges you are facing today will soon fade into brighter days, and that, every dawn is a chance to rise from the darkness of fear, sin, or despair into the light of faith, gratitude, and purpose.
O Allah, the Lord of the dawn and the Turner of hearts, as You cause the night to fade and the light of a new day to rise, let the light of Your mercy rise within the dawns of our souls. Ya Allah, remove the darkness of doubt, fear, and sin from our hearts and replace it with the radiance of īmān, hope, and tranquillity.
Ya Allah, just as You cast away the dawn after every night, cast open every closed door of goodness for us. Please, bring forth to our lives, relief after hardship, guidance after confusion, and peace after turmoil.
Ya Rahmān, Ya Rahīm, please make us among those whose souls remember You in ease and in difficulty. Make us among those whose souls are grateful when blessed and patient when tested.
Protect us Ya Allah from arrogance, ingratitude, and heedlessness, and make us mindful of the lessons You taught through the stories of the past, that power without piety is hollow, and wealth without gratitude is a burden.
O Lord of the Dawn, bless our families, our homes, and our communities with unity, mercy, and light. Grant us hearts that are consistently awaken by Your light, tongues that persistently remember You, and hands that always give in goodness.
Ya Allah, when our final dawn comes, let our souls be received with Your words of comfort.
