The worldwide leader of the Tijjaniyya Order, Sharif Sidi Ali Bil Arabi, has visited former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, as part of efforts to strengthen religious, cultural and economic relations between Algeria and Nigeria.
Sharif Sidi Ali Bil Arabi paid a courtesy visit to Senator Wamakko at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja, during his visit to Nigeria for activities marking the Maulud of Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani and national prayers for Nigeria.
The Tijjaniyya leader said the visit was aimed at promoting stronger religious and economic ties between Algeria and Nigeria, noting the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
He was accompanied by the Algerian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Hussein Mazawad, and other dignitaries.
Receiving the delegation, Senator Wamakko welcomed the Tijjaniyya leader and described the visit as timely and significant to efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Algeria.
Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said both countries shared longstanding religious, cultural and economic ties that should be sustained and strengthened for the benefit of their citizens.
He expressed appreciation for the visit and the role of religious leaders in promoting peace, unity and cooperation between communities and nations.
Sharif Sidi Ali Bil Arabi is in Nigeria to participate in the Maulud celebration of Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani and offer special prayers for peace, unity and progress in the country.
