President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Abubakar Mairuwa Mohammed as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina.
The appointment, which is for an initial period of four years, is with effect from March 6, 2026.
In the letter of appointment signed by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the new CMD was mandated to reposition the hospital for better service delivery.
“While congratulating you on your appointment, I urge you to consolidate and improve on the state of the Hospital towards realising the mandate of the teaching hospital. This has become necessary to justify the confidence reposed in you in this regard.
“It is my expectation that you will continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that the hospital continues to deliver quality health services to all,” the minister stated in the letter.
A highly regarded Nigerian medical professional and surgeon, Dr Mairuwa is a Consultant Surgeon with over three decades of experience in the medical field.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWCS), and Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FNPMCN).
Dr. Mairuwa, a dedicated surgeon and leader in the medical field, is known for his commitment to patient care who is frequently cited for his expertise in surgery and mentorship of junior doctors.
He has made name as a committed leader in healthcare in Katsina State, with a reputation for working tirelessly to support patients and staff.
