Tinubu blames opposition for hunger, poverty in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has blamed the opposition for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians, insisting that his administration is working to eradicate the economic challenges.

Tinubu stated this on Saturday while addressing supporters at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Kaduna, where he defended his administration’s record and sought the electorate’s support for a second term.

The mega event drew a massive crowd, with almost all APC governors in attendance.

Reacting to the opposition’s criticism of the country’s economic situation, the president challenged its members over their complaints about hunger and poverty, accusing them of being responsible for the problems.

“I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger. They created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.

The president maintained that his administration was making efforts to address the challenges, citing regular salary payments and the development efforts of APC governors as evidence of progress.

He also dismissed the opposition’s criticisms, describing its members as angry because they had failed to deliver on their promises.

“Our opponents are angry because they are failures. They have nothing to offer you,” he said, contrasting their position with what he described as his administration’s commitment to prosperity, economic recovery, growth and opportunities.

Tinubu urged Kaduna residents to support his re-election bid, recalling the support they gave him in the previous presidential election and asking them to renew his mandate for another term.

“I come again to thank you for that again, to seek your mandate for the second term. To keep a promise of prosperity, continuity, and progress, development,” he said.

He also appealed to young Nigerians to support his administration, promising a better future and urging eligible voters to obtain and use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The president further called on APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates across all levels of government, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly.

On economic reforms, Tinubu declared that fuel subsidy removal was in the past, while pledging to tackle corruption, falsification of invoices, smuggling and dishonesty.

He praised APC governors for their performance in their respective states, saying he was pleased with the development strides they were making and their commitment to regular salary payments.

The president thanked party leaders and youths for their support, reiterating his promise of a better tomorrow for Nigerians.

His remarks come amid public concerns over the cost of living and economic hardship, issues that have featured prominently in political debates over the performance of his administration.
