President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the governorship election, according to Accord Party chieftain, Pelumi Olajengbesi.
Olajengbesi disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo, following Adeleke’s declaration as winner of the poll.
He said Tinubu personally called Adeleke to congratulate him, adding that the President deserved commendation for not interfering in the election.
Olajengbesi also praised Tinubu for, according to him, keeping his promise to allow the election to be conducted freely.
He said: “The President congratulated Governor Adeleke last night.”
He, however, faulted aspects of the electoral process, saying the election could be described as credible but not entirely free and fair because of violent incidents recorded in parts of the state before and during the exercise.
Vanguard earlier reported that Adeleke was declared winner of the election after securing 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes.
