Tinubu has prioritised Northern development, says Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Wednesday said President Bola Tinubu had demonstrated a firm commitment to addressing the development needs of Northern Nigeria through strategic investments across key sectors.

The governor said the Federal Government had intervened in transportation, agriculture, healthcare, education, energy, infrastructure and national security, adding that the initiatives were laying a solid foundation for sustainable national growth and stability.

Speaking at the opening of the Northern States Governors’ Forum meeting held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, Sani said the region appreciated the President’s support and remained committed to working closely with the Federal Government to build a safer, more prosperous and united Nigeria.

He noted that despite the country’s persistent challenges, Nigeria had continued to record encouraging progress through sustained collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments.

According to him, national progress can only be achieved through determination, consistency and collective action rather than by overlooking existing challenges.

The governor described the proposed establishment of state police as one of the most significant developments in Nigeria’s national discourse, stressing that governors across political parties had consistently advocated a policing system that responds effectively to local security realities.

He said the creation of state police had become an urgent national necessity, arguing that the country’s vast territory, growing security threats and limited security personnel required a decentralised policing structure.

Sani said state police would serve as a force multiplier in the fight against banditry, terrorism and kidnapping, adding that it would significantly strengthen efforts to secure communities across the country.

He commended President Tinubu for what he described as courageous leadership in championing the state police initiative, insisting that Nigeria required more security personnel on the ground to protect lives and property.

The governor also praised the Senate and the House of Representatives for passing the State Police Bill, expressing confidence that the harmonisation process by the conference committee would be concluded without delay.

He said history would remember President Tinubu, the National Assembly, state governors and other stakeholders for supporting the creation of state police, which he believes offers a practical solution to Nigeria’s security challenges.
