President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, requesting the repeal and re-enactment of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Establishment) Act, 2025.
In a letter dated April 1, 2026, and addressed to the Speaker, the President said the proposed legislation is aimed at strengthening the management and administration of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).
Tinubu explained that the move is necessary to enhance support for the training and skill development of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as to facilitate the provision of modern security equipment and improve officers’ welfare.
According to the President, the repeal and re-enactment of the Act will significantly boost the operational capacity, accountability, and sustainability of the Fund in line with current security challenges facing the country.
He urged the House of Representatives to give the proposal expedited consideration and passage into law.
