President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to place national and public interest above personal ambition, stressing that the country needs leaders and citizens committed to service and the common good.
Tinubu made the call at St. Monica Cathedral of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Jimeta, Yola, during a thanksgiving service marking the 70th birthday of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr Boss Mustapha.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, the President said Nigeria’s development requires a stronger culture of selfless service rather than the pursuit of personal interests.
“Nigeria needs men and women who value what transcends personal interest, but rather a devotion to public service,” Tinubu said.
He described the occasion as an opportunity not only to celebrate Mustapha’s 70th birthday but also to give thanks for his life and years of public service.
“Today is first and foremost a day for thanksgiving. We gathered not only to celebrate a passage of seven decades, but to celebrate the faithfulness of God, who has preserved and sustained Boss Mustapha through the various seasons of life,” he added.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang also praised Mustapha, describing him as a benchmark for integrity in public service.
Mutfwang called for greater unity and cooperation among political leaders in the Middle Belt, stressing the importance of working together in the interest of the region and the country.
Similarly, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri commended the former SGF for his contributions to nation-building and public governance.
Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, praised Mustapha’s record of service and consistency in public affairs.
The thanksgiving service attracted political leaders, government officials, religious leaders and other well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the former SGF’s 70th birthday.
