Tinubu’s Loudest Voice of Reason in the North, Arewa Group Lauds Defence Minister of State Matawalle*

Date:

The Arewa Democratic Congress (ADC) has hailed the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, as President Bola Tinubu’s “loudest voice of reason in the North,” commending his outstanding leadership and significant contributions to the Tinubu administration, particularly in enhancing national security.

The group made this declaration following a one-day meeting in Kaduna, where they examined the state of the nation and discussed Matawalle’s impact on Nigeria’s defence sector.

In a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Luqman Isah, the ADC highlighted Matawalle’s role as a critical figure in the North, where his strategic vision and proactive approach have aligned seamlessly with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, making him a pivotal voice in the region’s political and security landscape.

Isah said Matawalle has acted as the bridge between the federal government’s policies and the grassroots realities of the region.

“Dr. Matawalle has emerged as a symbol of hope and stability in the North, embodying the Tinubu administration’s commitment to security and development,” Isah stated.

“His leadership has been instrumental in revitalising the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), positioning it as a hub for the military industrial complex and boosting local defence production, which is crucial for our nation’s sovereignty and economic growth.

“The DICON Act of 2023, the first major reform of Nigeria’s military-industrial base since the 1980s, restructured DICON as a public-private entity, enabling foreign partnerships and local production of small arms, protective equipment, and drone components,” Isah noted.

“This reform has not only enhanced Nigeria’s defence capabilities but also stimulated economic growth through job creation and technology transfer.”

The ADC’s meeting praised Matawalle’s efforts in coordinating military operations across the North-West, North-East, and other hotspots, noting a noticeable reduction in insurgent attacks, kidnappings, and related crimes.

“Under Matawalle’s joint oversight with Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, the military has recorded significant gains,” the statement added.

“Thousands of criminal elements, including bandits and insurgents, have been decimated, while many captives have been freed. This success is attributed to improved coordination, smarter deployment of tactical assets, and strengthened inter-agency collaboration.

“Matawalle’s shift towards intelligence-led operations and increased community engagement has pre-empted threats more effectively, safeguarding the North and fostering a conducive environment for agricultural activities to thrive.

“His initiatives, such as visiting troubled areas in the North-West, have further demonstrated his commitment, earning him trust and respect among local communities.

“Additionally, Matawalle has spearheaded the formation of the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Task Force, aligning Nigeria with regional and African Union objectives, further solidifying his impact on national security.

“Matawalle’s advocacy for better welfare for military personnel has boosted troop morale, with improved funding, enhanced living conditions, and timely operational allowances.

“His dedication to the well-being of our armed forces attests to his understanding that a motivated military is key to national security.

“Matawalle’s leadership has not only strengthened our defence capabilities but also reinforced President Tinubu’s vision for a secure and prosperous Nigeria. ”

The Arewa Democratic Congress expressed its support for Dr. Matawalle, recognising him as a critical pillar of the Tinubu administration and a true voice of reason in the North.
