A new civic movement, Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), has been launched in Abuja with a call on Nigerians to support ongoing national reforms and actively participate in building a stronger and more prosperous country.
Speaking at the unveiling at the National Assembly on Monday, the National Leader of the movement, Hon. Calistus Anyanwu, said RHGN was established to promote informed public engagement with the Renewed Hope Agenda, encourage constructive national dialogue and strengthen citizen participation in national development.
He said the movement was founded on the belief that leadership should be judged by performance, reforms by their results and public policies by their impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Anyanwu noted that although the country continues to face significant challenges, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken difficult but necessary decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth.
According to him, progress has been recorded in security through coordinated military operations, while investments in education, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), have expanded access to higher education for thousands of young Nigerians.
He also defended key economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, describing them as courageous decisions intended to strengthen the economy, attract investment and lay the foundation for sustainable development.
The RHGN leader further highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, local government autonomy and the proposed establishment of state police as major reforms designed to improve governance, security and service delivery across the country.
He commended the cooperation among the Executive, the National Assembly and state governments, saying the partnership had accelerated the implementation of critical reforms.
Anyanwu announced that RHGN had established structures across all states, local government areas and wards nationwide and would soon commence town hall meetings to educate citizens on government policies, receive public feedback and promote constructive dialogue.
He stressed that the organisation seeks to encourage evidence-based public discourse rather than propaganda, misinformation or political confrontation.
Calling on Nigerians, particularly youths, women, traditional institutions, professionals and members of the Diaspora, to participate in nation-building, Anyanwu urged citizens to support reforms that serve the national interest.
“Our message is simple and unwavering: Let us move forward, not backward. Let us strengthen reform, not abandon it. Let us build a greater Nigeria together,” he said.
Responding to questions from journalists, Anyanwu disclosed that 37 support groups had already approached RHGN for partnership.
“Our motive is to have a Nigeria that is better for all citizens,” he added.
On the hardships associated with the current reforms, Anyanwu said short-term pain is inevitable in major reform programmes worldwide, expressing confidence that Nigerians would appreciate the policies once their benefits begin to manifest.
