The Tiv Community in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the weekend celebrated its cultural day in a grand style.
Speaking at the occasion, Ter Tiv (Chief) of Kuje Area Council, His Royal Highness, Chief Begha Geoffrey said the purpose of celebrating Tiv culture was to enable the upcoming children to know their cultural heritage.
He disclosed that Tiv community in Kuje was the first among other Area Councils to organize cultural day celebration in the territory.
He said: “It is when the culture and traditional are being showcase before you know that a community is existing.
“When the TIV nation have a culture that support to be demonstrated every year”.
He, therefore, used the occasion as a forum to call on the TIV speaking tribe across the six Area councils to participate in politics.
Also speaking, the MUT President in Kuje Area Council, Ambassador Hua Emmanuel, urged TIV people to continue to embrace unity for the overall development of Tiv community in the FCT.
He said: “When the culture is no longer in existence, the children will not know their cultural values and norms”.
On her part, the Chairperson of the Central Planning Committee of Tiv cultural day, Chief Mrs. Bridget Shagba, who represented the chairman the occasion, said the Tiv people came out today to showcase their culture in the interest of the Tiv community in Kuje.
Shaba, who is famously known as aka Lady ‘B’ advised Tiv youths to come together for the sake of peace, noting that, Gbagyi culture was the culture that could be compared to Tiv culture in Nigeria.
