Tragedy: Suspected Bandits Kill ASP, 70-Year-Old Man in Kebbe LGA, Sokoto

Tragedy struck late Monday night in Kurya village of Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State when suspected bandits killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hussaini Balarabe and a 70-year-old man, Bala Wakili.
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that another resident, Salisu Bala, was injured during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai.
He said the bandits also razed a Police patrol van and a vehicle belonging to the Community Guards Corps.
According to Rufai, crack teams of the Police and the Community Guards Corps had responded to distress calls from residents following an incursion by the bandits.
The Police spokesperson said the bandits struck the community with the intention of rustling cattle, but their mission was aborted by the swift intervention of the police and the community guards corps.
“We are happy that the bandits also recorded heavy casualty,” he added.
DSP Rufai further disclosed that the remains of the deceased police officer have been deposited in hospital for autopsy.
The attack has renewed calls by residents of Kebbe and other border communities for increased security presence to curb banditry in the state.
