
Tragedy: Two Youths Arrested Over Alleged Gang-Rape, Death of Woman in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested two youths suspected to be involved in the alleged gang-rape and subsequent death of a 27-year-old woman, Fatima Bizo, in Yarume village, Wamakko Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which has sparked outrage among residents, allegedly occurred when the suspects sexually assaulted the victim before her death.
Impeccable sources in the area alleged that the suspects later used a rope to strangle her to death after sexually molesting her.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding her death is being investigated by the police.
The deceased had since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the two suspects had been arrested and the case being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The suspects are being interrogated and investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
“The command will ensure that justice is served,” DSP Rufai furthet stated.
The incident comes amidst rising concerns over increasing Gender-Based Violence across Nigeria, especially targeting kids, teenagers and middle-aged women.
Concerned Nigerians have therefore called for more stringent measures to stem the tide of such obnoxious developments, with a view to protecting the vulnerable targets, especially girl-children.
Community leaders in Yarume have also called for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those found culpable to serve as a deterrent.
