Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam said the training of 40 Air Traffic Controllers in the agency is aim to enable them keep pace with the dynamics of the evolving technology synonymous with the aviation industry.

The training, which he said will enhance the critical manpower capacity of NAMA, will see the ATC undergo training on Performance Based Navigation (PBN) in Cairo, Egypt.

Abdulsalam also reiterated that the training form part of the wider effort of his management in ensuring the continuous training and retraining of personnel to ensure a safer airspace for Nigeria.

The NAMA boss disclosed that a new technology being deploy, the Mode ‘S’ Data link and Controller/Pilot Data Link (CPDLC) will eradicate verbal communication between pilots and control tower and give way to digital/data communication.

Also, a statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs of NAMA, Prince Supo Atobatele said Abdulsalam seeks further collective and harmonious collaboration among the Army, Navy, Air Force and NAMA in airspace coordination.

Abdulsalam spoke at an Airspace Management Seminar held at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, where he explained that since the airspace is a single resource, the flexibility of its usage by both civil and military will make for more flight efficiency and economic air navigation.

“NAMA is committed to providing technical and operational support for the planned deployment of military radars in support of national security as well as ensuring the interoperability of civil/military components of TRACON.” He told the gathering.

Air Commodore Bello Garba of Command Evaluation, Headquarters Command, Kaduna harped for closer between the duo in using aeronautical facilities and monitoring of the nation’s airspace.
